Heineken on Friday secured a Singapore group’s approval for its takeover of the Tiger Beer brand, boosting the Dutch giant’s share of the Asian market after a high-stakes tussle with Thai billionaire Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi’s Thai Beverage group.
THE HAGUE — Dutch beer giant Heineken said Wednesday it was buying a further 8.6 percent of top Asian brewer APB, meaning it will soon own over 90 percent of the company and gain a critical edge in Asia.

Thai billionaire Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi made a S$9 billion ($7.3 billion) bid for the 70 percent of Fraser & Neave Ltd. (FNN) he does not control, potentially blocking Heineken NV (HEIA) from buying the company’s beer business.

On 17 August 2012, Heineken announced that it agreed a final offer and signed definitive agreements with Fraser & Neave (F&N) to acquire its entire effective interest in Asia Pacific Breweries Limited (APB) and the non-APB assets held by Asia Pacific Investment Pte Ltd (APIPL) for a total consideration of S$5.6 billion.
